LAGS IN ACCELERATION WITH WHITENED SPARK PLUGS - I’ve noticed lags in acceleration with whitened spark plugs after adding Mécacyl HJE. Is that normal?
Answer:Mécacyl HJE must always be well-diluted when refuelling. Mécacyl HJE does not cause breakdowns or failures. Mécacyl received a Gold Medal at the 55thWorld Exhibition on Innovation as it’s a form of lubrication that does not burn, meaning it prevents deposits and enables cleaner carburation. To avoid these troubles, you must avoid overdosing and always dilute it well when refuelling (Pour a little Mécacyl HJE, a little fuel, a little Mécacyl HJE, a little fuel until properly diluted...).
WHITE SMOKE- I’ve noticed white smoke after using Mécacyl HJE. Is this normal?
Answer: The appearance of white smoke is completely normal after using Mécacyl for the first time. It happens because Mécacyl removes all the moisture from inside the injectors. All Mécacyl products are anhydrous. This is also why it limits oxidisation.
The best thing to do is run the engine immediately after adding Mécacyl HJE. This smoke stops after driving for a while.
ISOLATED INCREASED FUEL CONSUMPTION WITH HJE - I added 2 capfuls in 20 litres of petrol in a 2000 motorbike with a total of 64,000 km. I refuelled after 100 km and my fuel consumption went from 7.5 L/100 to 10L. I refuelled again, and the consumption dropped to 6.5 L/100 the next time. Is this normal?
Answer: Mécacyl HJE helps maintain the combustion chamber by removing combustion residue and more specifically lubricates the upper engine against contaminants and drying fuel. Moreover, just like all Mécacyl products, it is non-flammable and non-fusible, so consumption may increase temporarily during the settling phase depending on the engine fouling and how well Mécacyl HJE is diluted with the petrol. To limit this extra consumption, Mécacyl HJE should always be well-diluted when refuelling and never overdosed.
WHITE TRACES – How can you get rid of the white traces on the exhaust pipe outlet?
Answer: The white traces observed are essentially borate ester residue from the oil that Mécacyl releases to prevent the oil from working in a friction area. There may also be oxide residue.
To prevent any substance on the exhaust pipe, it’s best to use a silicone paste before using Mécacyl for the first time.
If the esters are already present, there are many exhaust pipe cleaning gums on the market to get the chrome back to its original conditions.
It works just as good on real chrome as it does on most imitation chrome like the shiny veneer on cars, motorbikes, mopeds and bikes.
But all you need is sodium bicarbonate water and white vinegar to proceed as follows:

The chrome will now shine like never before
BLACK SMOKE - I noticed black smoke after using Mécacyl HJD. Is this normal?
Answer: It’s rare but may happen from time to time.
This black smoke may appear in 3 situations:
- If your vehicle is too fouled. In this case, the black smoke will end up disappearing.
- If you notice black smoke and a lag in acceleration or loss of power, your EGR valve is too fouled and you should clean it.
- If you notice too much fuel consumption, the problem has to do with the injectors in which case Mécacyl couldn’t fix the injection problem.
BLACK SMOKE – My car gives off black smoke when starting and there’s no recovery. I have to rev up the engine with each gear change. Will the use of Mécacyl HJD work in my case?
Answer: It’s most likely due to fouling in your EGR valve. We recommend you clean it. If you notice very high fuel consumption in addition to lags in acceleration, the problem is with the injectors and, in such case, Mécacyl HJD won’t help fix the injection problem.
If intensive de-fouling is needed, pour 1/2 a bottle directly into the diesel oil filter.
5,000 km later, use another ¼ and repeat with the last quarter.
If Mécacyl HJD doesn’t resolve the issue and the fouling is too great, you must clean the actual valve. Using Mécacyl HJD in a high quantity may be enough.
OVERDOSAGE - I used Mécacyl HJD, but I went a little overboard pouring it in. I didn’t realise the 200 ml bottle was for 3 different uses and I poured it all in at once. After nearly 500 km, my car started giving off exhaust and I smelt a bad old diesel oil odour (coming out of the exhaust pipe). Is this normal? Will this wear off after a certain number of kilometres? Is it possible that this had a harmful effect on the catalyser or another mechanical part?
Answer: We can assure you that the smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe is completely normal. Mécacyl HJD removes all moisture from the upper engine as well as oxidisation and fuel burning residue, so the smoke + odour is completely normal. By putting too much in, you have essentially deeply de-fouled the entire upper engine. The disadvantages to overdosing are as follows:
Temporary lags in acceleration: in fact, Mécacyl by nature is a lubrication that does not burn.
Deep cleaning if the vehicle is very fouled may lead to mass residue release with the rare but possible risk of fouling the peripheral parts when the gum and unburned fuel are removed through the exhaust. As far as the catalyser, there is no reason to think that Mécacyl has had an impact if it is not at the end of its useful life or extremely fouled.
PARTICLE FILTER RISK - Can you use Mécacyl HJD with a particle filter?
Answer: Mécacyl HJD is the perfect complement to Mécacyl CR in diesel vehicles. The aim thereof is also to keep the filter particle in good conditions and to limit fouling. The only incompatibility: particle filters with additives inside.
EGR RISK - Can you use Mécacyl HJD with EGR?
Answer: Mécacyl HJD is the perfect complement to Mécacyl CR in diesel vehicles. The aim thereof is also to keep the filter particle in good conditions and to limit fouling.
There’s only one contraindication: vehicles equipped with an EGR valve cooled by CL (cooling liquid); they represent around 10% of those on the market and only affect certain diesel vehicles. If you don’t know which type of EGR valve your vehicle is equipped with and your vehicle was produced after 2008, you should find out from your dealership or send an email for confirmation.
Many articles in AUTO PLUS have denounced the weakness of these parts.
These EGR valves are equipped with exchangers or coolers, cannot bear thermal shock and almost systematically show light CL leakage. In draining the engine of all water, Mécacyl eliminates all forms of moisture and thus increases the consumption of CL just as it removes all burn gum and residue.
BLUEISH SMOKE – Smoke that is a bit blue is coming out of the car after 2,500 km. Is this normal? How long will it last?
Answer: Mécacyl should not be used in a vehicle that consumes a lot of oil.
If your car did not consume oil before using Mécacyl, this smoke is due to the use of Mécacyl. 2 reasons:
1) Mécacyl makes the engine anhydrous (water-free). A vehicle that has just been Mécacycled eliminates this water through the exhaust; hence, a larger or smaller amount of white smoke is based on the moisture in the air and engine as well as the kilometres on the vehicle. It lasts between 10 minutes and up to one week after starting up.
2) If this smoke is a bit blue, Mécacyl has removed oil burn residue as well as moisture and oxides.
It’s a good thing and a sign Mécacyl is settling.
GASKETS – Can Mécacyl attack the gaskets?
Answer: All Mécacyl products actually have gasket protection component so they never attack the gaskets. This is why engines with Mécacyl are perfectly hermetic at 300,000 km and show no burn residue (as Mécacyl does not burn). It cannot alter a gasket. If leakage appears, the gasket was already defective.
Some gaskets, however, should not come into contact with Mécacyl like paper gaskets, light gaskets and, generally, all gaskets found on pre-1960 collector cars.
WHITE EXHAUST SMOKE - White smoke appeared after using Mécacyl for the first time. Is this normal?
Answer: White smoke appears after using Mécacyl for the first time. It’s completely normal. In fact, Mécacyl removes all moisture in the engine to make it anhydrous. An anhydrous engine is an engine that rusts a lot less and, therefore, shows less wear. The white smoke is the water vapour. It will gradually go away as you drive.
Smoke intensity: If the engine or weather is very humid, the smoke may be impressive and can make you think a gasket has broken, but it’s really nothing! The coolant level should not change! If that’s the case, the white smoke isn’t due to Mécacyl.
And you would then need to have the vehicle inspected.
Duration: from 10 minutes to 1 week maximum after starting in the morning.
160,000 KM VEHICLE – Which products are best for a vehicle with 160,000 km?
Answer: For a 160,000 km vehicle in perfect conditions without oil leaks or oil or coolant consumption, you can use 1 bottle of Mécacyl CR for every 4 to 5 litres of oil. Given the kilometrage, you need to do oil changes the first two times you add Mécacyl exceptionally close together before again going back to oil changes at the standard intervals. For these first two oil changes, don’t use very expensive oil. Continue doing oil changes at normal intervals with the oil of your choice.
This is no particular incompatibility for Mécacyl HY, Mécacyl HJD, Mécacyl HJE.
UNDERGOING ANTI-POLLUTION INSPECTIONS - I have to undergo a second inspection due to pollution. Can Mécacyl help me?
Answer:Mécacyl HJD2 is intended for use as a last-minute remedy to clean diesel vehicles that have not regularly been Mécacycled with Mécacyl CR or Mécacyl HJD to reduce fuel consumption and high engine fouling.
Mécacyl HJD2 offers excellent results for technical inspections.
Tip: If your vehicle is heavily fouled and you must undergo a second inspection due to pollution, we recommend the following usage:
- Empty the bottle of Mécacyl HJD2 into the diesel oil filter,
- Start up the engine
- Keep accelerating
- Drive 5 km.
Our instructions expressly state that Mécacyl HJD2 is meant for occasional use. After passing the inspection, we recommend the use of Mécacyl CR and then the use of the complement Mécacyl HJD.
